Over half a dozen new degree and certificate programs are now available for students to take at Montgomery County Community College.

As part of its continuing commitment to serve the educational, workforce and cultural needs of its students and County communities, Montgomery County Community College announces it is adding over half a dozen new and updated degree and certificate programs to its list of course offerings.

Students will now be able to pursue an associate’s degree in Health Care Administration, Public Safety Administration, Web Development and Design, Computer Networking and Cyber Security and Applied Science in Interactive Media – Game Design. They can also receive a certificate in Web Development and Design and Computer Networking and Cyber Security.

Health Care Administration

MCCC’s new Health Care Administration Associate of Science Degree puts students at the forefront of a rapidly growing industry.

“Today, more than ever, we need dedicated health care professionals.  If you’re looking for a rewarding career in the dynamic health care industry, think about earning a marketable degree in the new Health Care Administration Associate of Science degree program,” said Kathy Schreiner, Director of Medical Office Professions at West Campus. “By 2026, the medical and health services industry is expected to increase by 20 percent, meaning approximately 70,000 job opportunities for graduates.”

Classes for the program are offered at Central Campus in Blue Bell, West Campus in Pottstown and online.

This program teaches students the major components of health care and the roles and responsibilities of health care professionals. Topics of discussion include law, ethics, cultural competency, communication, leadership and technology.

Students in the Medical Assistant Certificate, Medical Office Assistant Certificate Completion and Medical Coding Certificate of Completion programs will be able to apply all their credits to this degree.

Program outcomes include the ability to describe the major components of the U.S. health care delivery system, apply concepts of leadership, communication, finance and technology to the health care industry, evaluate the impact of law, ethics and cultural competency on the provision and delivery of health care services and analyze the impact of emerging issues on the health care delivery system.

Public Safety Administration AS

The new Public Safety Administration Associate of Science Degree involves learning about the prevention and reaction to any emergency that may threaten individual citizens.

“If you are interested in the intersection of criminal justice, fire science, public health, and emergency management when it comes to disaster relief, response, preparedness and recovery, this course is for you,” said Criminal Justice Assistant Professor Jayden Sampson.

This degree provides students the experience needed for entry-level employment or to continue studying in a bachelor’s degree program in public safety administration and related fields.

At the end of the course, students will demonstrate mastery of theory and practice of public safety administration; demonstration leadership through efficient group and task management; make effective, principled public safety decisions in diverse and dynamic situations; differentiate between public and private resources to effectively meet public safety goals; and integrate organizational dynamics through multiple public safety perspectives in real world situations.

Students have the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degree in Public Safety Administration on our campuses  through our University Center partnership with Neumann University.

Web Development and Design

Students can enter one of the hottest fields in technology today with the new Web Development and Design Associate Degree. “Gain the employable skills needed to gain an entry-level position as a website developer, programmer or user experience designer” said Computer Science Professor Marie Hartlein.

Topics of study include website visual design standards, HTML, Java programming, mobile application development and database integration. After graduation, students frequently transfer to four-year institutions offering web development programs of study.

Outcomes of the program include the ability to develop a secure, scalable and standards-compliant website, as well as utilize databases to develop dynamic interactive website and applications.

Web Development and Design (certificate)

The Web Development and Design Certificate helps students gain in-demand abilities in the workplace.

“You’ll obtain the marketable expertise in website development, programming and as a user experience designer that will make you an asset in business,” said Hartlein.

This certificate is recommended for individuals who already have experience in the workforce and are looking for additional training or a new specialty. Topics of study include website visual design standards, HTML, Java programming, mobile application development and database integration. This certificate seamlessly stacks into the Web Development and Design associate’s degree for those interested in continuing their studies.

Program outcomes for this certificate include the ability to develop a secure, scalable and standards compliant website, and utilize databases to develop dynamic interactive websites and applications.

AAS in Interactive Media – Game Design

Enter the exciting world of videos games through the AAS in Interactive Media – Game Design degree.

“In this revised program,” said Computer Science Assistant Professor Jason Wertz, “students build the skills needed for entry-level positions in the game industry or further study in the field.”

After graduation, many students frequently transfer to four-year institutions offering interactive media studies. At the end of this program, students will be able to develop electronic games and simulations using industry-standard software tools and game design principles and produce working prototypes of electronic games.

Computer Networking and Cyber Security AAS

Through MCCC’s Computer Networking and Cyber Security Associate of Applied Science Degree program, students gain the knowledge to design and build secure computer networks.

“This program provides a solid foundation in data communications, CISCO router configuration, server operating systems and cyber security,” said Hartlein.

Graduates are ready to take industry certification exams (such as A+, Microsoft MTA, Security+ and CISCO CCNA) and can expect to work as an entry-level network administrator, security specialist or computer support technician.

After graduation, students frequently transfer to four-year institutions offering computer networking and cyber security program.

The program requires extensive hands-on work in computer labs featuring state-of-the-art equipment. Following this course, students will have the ability to analyze and solve computer hardware and software problems; program and configure Cisco switches and routers; describe the principles and components of cybersecurity; and apply critical thinking, team building and problem-solving skills to design, implement and maintain a secure local area network configuration.

Computer Networking and Cyber Security (certificate)

Learn how to guard against a cyber-invasion and develop skills in computer networking through MCCC’s Computer Networking and Cyber Security Certificate program. “Boost your resume and gain skills to configure a computer network and protect it against cyber-attacks with this certificate,” said Hartlein. Like the computer networking and cyber security degree, this program provides foundational knowledge of data communications, CISCO router configuration, server operating systems and cyber security.

This program stacks seamlessly into the Computer Networking and Cyber Security AAS degree. Students who complete this certificate can continue studying and apply the course in this certificate towards a computer networking and cyber security associate’s degree.

By the program’s completion, students will be able to analyze and solve computer hardware and software problems, program and configure Cisco switches and routers and describe the principles and components of cyber security.

Students will be required to apply critical thinking, team building and problem-solving skills to design, implement and maintain a secure local area network configuration.
