Montgomery County Community College’s podcast, “Montco on the Move,” has teamed up with the College’s Wellness Center to begin a new series dedicated to promoting student wellness.
Dr. Nichole Kang, director of MCCC’s Wellness Center, said the goal of the wellness series is to promote the free, holistic support resources available to all students in the Wellness Center at both the Blue Bell and Pottstown Campuses and online.
“We want to destigmatize wellness,” she said. “Whether that is around mental health and seeking support, asking for help with resources like food and housing, and substance use recovery.
Listeners can hear and subscribe to the wellness series episodes on the first of each
month here at or wherever podcasts are available to download. Each episode will explore a different
issue facing students today. The topics include resources available to students who
are parents; information about the Wellness Centers at both campuses, including services
for mental and physical health, food insecurity, and other essential needs; coping
skills/stress management/fitness and nutrition; mental health awareness; LGBTQ+ awareness;
substance use recovery and suicide prevention.
Wellness Center Manager Ally Arthur said the wellness series podcasts allow for an extended look at all of the programs and resources available.
“We try to treat the entire student to allow them to thrive here as a Montco student,” she said. “Anything students need to help them graduate, it’s our goal to help them. Even resources we need to refer out. We never want students to see a list of the resources we provide and think ‘This does not apply to me.’ It’s about asking questions and reaching out. We will find you help and the resources you need.”
The podcast is a perfect medium to begin having important conversations about real-world issues affecting students today, said Kang.
“If the community really knew how many students were experiencing these issues, it would be a lot easier to have these kinds of conversations,” she said. “This podcast will help.”
Hosted by Dr. Jared Brown, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs at the Pottstown Campus, the “Montco on the Move” podcast is free to download. MCCC students in the Sound Recording and Music Technology (SRT) program record, edit and produce the podcast under the direction of SRT Director David Ivory and technical support of Senior Producer and Technical Support Manager Matt Porter.
