In this section, we will provide information about the following:
- Giving feedback to your student teacher
- Communicating with your student teacher
- Communicating with the supervisor
Giving feedback to your student teacher
Please make sure that you provide constructive feedback after every lesson that the student teacher leads and/or plans. S/he really needs to know if it is successful, needs improvement, what was good, and what could be improved. This should happen every time, even if you think the lesson was perfect the way it was.
Ask them open ended questions about how they felt their lesson went or what would they do to improve the lesson and then give them feedback on that answer as sometimes they already know what needed to change.Ask them open ended questions about how they felt their lesson went or what would they do to improve the lesson and then give them feedback on that answer as sometimes they already know what needed to change.
Communicating with your student teacher
- Make sure your student teacher has all of your contact information, as well as the directors and center's, in case of an emergency.
- Tell your student teacher the best means in which to get in touch with you (email, text, phone call, etc.)
- You could have a dialogue journal between you and your student teacher for times when you cannot talk in person.
Communicating with the Supervisor
- Make sure the supervisor gives you all of his/her contact information and you provide yours as well.
- Contact the supervisor as soon as you have an issue or if something is going really well.
- We also need to hear the positive feedback concerning our student teachers.
