Montgomery County Community College’s Liberal Arts Division recently held its inaugural Excellence in Liberal Arts Awards before an audience of faculty, students, and family at the Health Sciences Center on the Blue Bell Campus.  The Liberal Arts faculty nominated and selected awards for each of the 17 disciplines in the division.

“As any professor will tell you, there is always that one student who stands out in a course because of the excellent work that they do or the outstanding contribution that they make to the classroom environment,” said Dr. Amanda Gatchet, an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at MCCC.  “It was so nice to be able to recognize and honor those students.”

This year’s honorees include Jessica Bergey, Liberal Studies, Hatfield; Johnny Bryant, Strategies for College Success, Collingdale; Rachel Burnstine, Philosophy, North Wales; Claudia Castro-Diaz, Reading, Souderton; Francis Carlo Claro, Communication Studies, King of Prussia; Sean Comitalo, English, Pennsburg; Chad Coursen, Sociology, Conshohocken; Zeanb Eltyeb, English as a Second Language, Lansdale; Jillian Gerlach, Anthropology, Harleysville; Aleksa Guess, Dance, Pennsburg; Robin Hart, Public Relations, Roslyn; Eliana Judge, History, Worcester; Alyssa-Renee Paul, Theatre, Pottstown; Nicolas Paczewski, Political Science, King of Prussia; Francesca Santini, Fine Arts, North Wales; Melissa Holland Smith, World Languages, Pottstown; and Anastasiia Vasylevych, Music, Hatboro.

In addition to a certificate and a medal, each recipient received a bracelet made from the honor cord colors white, brown, and pink which represent three of the academic colors of the division.

Preceding the awards, Dr. Timothy J. Brown, Dean of Liberal Arts, gave a motivational speech entitled, “You Have Been Called Out to be Called On,” as a reminder to the students they have a responsibility to be servant-leaders in the communities in which they will live and work.
