On behalf of Montgomery County Community College and as part of her inauguration as sixth president, Dr. Victoria Bastecki-Perez started an annual initiative called “Monty’s Book Club” in which books will be donated to the libraries of Montgomery County elementary schools.

Monty's Book ClubAs a leader who is passionate about education, Dr. Bastecki-Perez believes that reading and access to books are key in developing a lifelong love of learning. Monty’s Book Club is a small but meaningful way to contribute to and support the valuable libraries in our schools.

This year’s selection is “I Believe I Can,” written by Grace Byers and illustrated by Keturah A. Bobo. “I Believe I Can” has a simple yet powerful message of believing in oneself and having the courage to take risks and bounce back from setbacks. It is wonderfully illustrated with children of all races, ethnicities and abilities. Dr. Bastecki-Perez’s favorite line from the book is “I know I can do anything. If only I believe I can.”

As part of the inauguration activities, Dr. Bastecki-Perez read the book via Zoom to children from the Children’s Center and the Montco Family.
