Mustangs #2 in NJCAA Region XIX Tournament

Montgomery County Community College’s Mustangs Men’s Basketball team is the #2 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Tournament. They will get a first round bye and take on the winner of Brookdale and Cumberland on February 25 at 7 p.m. at home (Health Sciences Center gym, Central Campus in Blue Bell). Good luck, Mustangs!

MCCC’s Mustangs, along with Northampton Community College and the Community College of Philadelphia, are the EPAC Regular Season Tri-Champions.

During the week of February 17, the Mustangs Men’s Basketball team was ranked 8th in the country for the 2019-20 NJCAA Division III Men’s Basketball rankings.

EPAC Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Men’s Basketball Coach Nyere Miller, who was named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference’s (EPAC) Coach of the Year. Coach Miller is the Coordinator of Athletics and Student Leadership at Montgomery County Community College.

Coach Miller took over the 1-25 men's basketball program in the fall of 2018. Under his guidance, the program has risen to a national level; entering post season with a ranking #8 in the country and a 21-4 overall record.  He led the team to finish the 2019-2020 regular season as tri-conference champions.  Coach Miller also sets academic standards for his team and serves as a mentor to their academic success. 

Before coming to MCCC, he served as the Coordinator of Athletics and Student Leadership at Salam Community College. He also served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Widener University and Delaware Valley University.

Miller is a 2009 graduate of Widener University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management. He also attained his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Delaware Valley University in 2016.

Miller played collegiate basketball at Widener University where he won three Commonwealth Conference titles and competed in the NCAA tournament all four years from 2006-2009.

EPAC Student of the Week

Mustangs Men’s Basketball player, Seth Compas, was named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 10. Compas averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and two steals in two games. In the game against Northampton Community College, he scored 23 points with 6 rebounds.

Compas is in his freshman year at Montgomery County Community College and is majoring in Criminal Justice. He graduated from Wissahickon High School where he played on the varsity basketball team.

MCCC students selected for EPAC All-Conference Teams

Mustangs Women’s Basketball player, Maria Cotellese, was selected for the 2019-20 Women’s Basketball DIII All-Conference Team.

Mustangs Men’s Basketball player, Cameron Reid, was selected for the 2019-20 Men’s Basketball DIII All-Conference Team (1st Team) and Seth Compas was selected for the 2nd team.

On Feb. 5, the Mustangs hosted an all-day kickoff event to celebrate the launch the new Mustangs eSports team. Students and employees had fun participating in tournaments of FIFA, Madden, NBA 2K and Rocket League. As the eSports season gets underway, you can cheer on the Mustangs by tuning into the livestream at twitch.tv/mc3.mustangs.
