For students with special needs, transitioning from high school to college or a job can be a smooth process with some planning and support. Montgomery County Community College wants to help parents of children with special needs through this process by offering an informational conference, Bridging to the Future, on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The conference will be held in the Health Sciences Center at MCCC’s Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. The cost to attend is $35. For more information or to register, contact Denise Garrigus at dgarrigu@mc3.edu or 215-619-7403 or register online. 

Several speakers will be presenting seminars on the transition process and will discuss what to expect, how to prepare for the transition, legal aspects, financial planning, rights and waivers, among other topics. More than 25 vendors will be at the conference to provide information on various topics and the services they provide.

MCCC will have information available about its Disability Services, Workforce Development Division and Bridge to College program.

A supportive, personalized six-week college-readiness program, MCCC’s Bridge to College is designed for college-bound high school students or recent graduates with high-functioning autism or special needs. The program helps students reduce the anxiety often associated with a major life change and develops the social and organizational skills necessary to promote independent functioning in college.
