The exhibition will feature several large format fiber installations as well as smaller pen-and-ink illustrations, said Patrick Rodgers, MCCC Galleries Manager.
“Kate Leibrand is best known for her large-scale fiber art installations,” he said, “which have been displayed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Flower Show, Philadelphia International Airport, and the Smithsonian Craft Show.”
“These densely woven, lushly arranged compositions suggest fabric landscapes and organic forms,” he said. “A designer by training, Leibrand’s illustrations will be on display along with her fabric installations to highlight the artist’s acute sense of color and composition in both pen-and-ink and fabric.”
Leibrand hopes audiences will appreciate the thought put into the exhibit.
“Throughout this body of work, I wanted to blur the line between the familiar and the fantastical,” she said. “Ideas of home can shift from a shell carried on a hermit crab's back to an entire universe rooted in ancestry and organic growth. Something microscopic really can resemble something infinite.”
“With the central installation, I wanted this piece to feel like a portal with its inner mechanisms on display,” she continued. “The front offers a vibrant gateway, while the back reveals the subterranean blueprint - the hidden pipes and passageways that bring the whole space to life.”
The Fine Arts Center Gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and closed Sundays. Hours are dependent on the College Calendar.
