How to Add a Video to a Canvas Assignment or Discussion

The following article provides information and additional resources for students on how to use Yuja, our enterprise video platform, and submit videos to assignments and discussion board responses within Canvas LMS.

Before You Begin

Please review the following information prior to submitting a video within Canvas LMS:

Adding a video to a Canvas assignment

Option #1 - Adding a Video to a Text Submission:
  1. Open the Canvas assignment in which you will be submitting your video.
  2. Select Text below the assignment description to open the rich text editor. 
  3. At the top of the editor, select Tools > Apps > Yuja Media
  4. In the pop-up window that appears, select Choose Media to search for a preexisting video OR select Upload Media to add a new video from your device (Note: videos created through the desktop or mobile application will be automatically uploaded to your Yuja account).
  5. Once you have located or added your video, select Insert Content. A thumbnail and link to your video will appear within the rich text editor. 
  6. Include any additional required content (text, files, etc.), then select Submit Assignment.

 

Option #2 - Adding a Video to a Website URL Submission:
  1. Select Yuja from your Canvas course menu.
  2. Search for a preexisting video from the Yuja Dashboard OR select Upload Media to add a new video from your device (Note: videos created through the desktop or mobile application will be automatically uploaded to your Yuja account).
  3. Once you have located or added your video, hover over the video's thumbnail. Select More from the menu that appears. 
  4. In the pop-up window that appears, select Links and copy the Direct Link URL.
  5. Leave Yuja and open the Canvas assignment in which you will be submitting your video. 
  6. Select Web URL below the assignment description.
  7. Paste the direct link URL in the box that appears.
  8. Include any additional required content (text, files, etc.), then select Submit Assignment.

Adding a video to a Canvas discussion

  1. Open the Canvas discussion in which you will be attaching your video.
  2. Select Reply at the bottom of the discussion prompt. A rich text editor in which to enter your response will appear. 
  3. At the top of the editor, select Tools > Apps > Yuja Media
  4. In the pop-up window that appears, select Choose Media to search for a preexisting video OR select Upload Media to add a new video from your device (Note: videos created through the desktop or mobile application will be automatically uploaded to your Yuja account).
  5. Once you have located or added your video, select Insert Content. A thumbnail and link to your video will appear within the rich text editor. 
  6. Include any additional required content (text, files, etc.), then select Reply to submit your response.
