LGBTQ 101

Presented by Hazel Edwards, Interim Director of the Bryson Institute at The Attic Youth Center.

  • Gain an understanding of the services provided by The Attic Youth Center and feel prepared to make referrals for youth as necessary
  • Participate in a group activity and gain a greater understanding of and empathy toward the coming out processes for LGBTQ people
  • Learn about common terminology surrounding LGBTQ youth
  • Discuss the impact of specific systems of oppression such as: heterosexism, cissexism and racism, specifically within housing
  • Identify the ways in which barriers facing LGBTQ youth within housing, school, juvenile justice, child welfare and healthy relationships, impact LGBTQ youth
  • Take away 20 best practices for supporting LGBTQ youth in the form of individual, interpersonal and institutional action steps
