The College provides accessible and affordable educational opportunities to all who apply. The Admissions Policy is intended to support the success of applicants as they enroll at the College.
Admission to Montgomery County Community College is open to the following individuals.
- All high school graduates, General Equivalency/Commonwealth Diploma recipients, and transfer applicants from another College or University.
- Any person who is a non-high school graduate and approved for enrollment in the Early Admissions program.
- Any non-high school graduate and non-General Equivalency recipient over the age of 18 who demonstrates through assessment testing an ability to benefit from postsecondary educational experiences.

Selective Admissions Programs
Selective admissions to programs of study such as nursing, dental hygiene, medical lab technician, surgical technology, and radiography, which lead to certification or licensure opportunities, are determined by guidelines established in concert with external specialized accrediting agencies. Specific admissions criteria for these programs of study are available in the college catalog.
The admission requirements for the Honors Program at Montgomery County Community College for the recent high school graduate are any two of the following.
- High school cumulative grade point average of 3.5, or to the satisfaction of the College of equivalent grades.
- Top 15% of high school graduating class.
- Top 15% scorer in College Placement Tests.
- Personal interview with the Honors Coordinator that convinces the interviewer that the student has the ability to participate at a satisfactory level.
To be eligible for the Honors Program, current and transfer students need the following.
- A 3.2 grade point average from the previous semester, with a minimum of 12 credits, or be among the top 15 percent in the College’s placement tests.
- At least two faculty recommendations.
- A personal interview with the Honors Coordinator that convinces the interviewer that the student has the ability to participate at a satisfactory level.
The College will allow non-high school graduates to apply for admission to a program of study under Early Admissions including Dual Enrollment. Applicants who apply for early admissions must demonstrate academic readiness at the college level as determined by placement (assessment) test, testing exemptions or completion of developmental coursework.
International Student Admissions
The College is a Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified school. The College may issue a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and Language Students (Form I-20) once the applicant has demonstrated eligibility for admissions as stated in the procedures for regular admissions and provided documentary evidence of financial support as required by Code for Federal Regulations Title 8 Section 214.1 under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Program of Study—a program or combination of courses that lead to a degree or certificate.
Selective Admissions Program—a program that may lead to certification or licensure opportunities which has specific admissions criteria to be considered for acceptance, in accordance with guidelines established in concert with external specialized accrediting agencies.
The College requires prospective students to submit an application for admission to enroll.
All applicants are required to submit a high school transcript or transcript from their most recent educational experience.
All applicants seeking admission to a program of study must complete a placement (assessment) test or provide proof of test exemptions as stated in the College’s Placement and Testing policy in order to establish academic readiness prior to entering a degree program. Applicants who have never graduated from high school and who have not completed the GED may be admitted to the College provided they are over the age of 18 and demonstrate through placement testing an ability to benefit from postsecondary educational experiences. For those who do not demonstrate the appropriate level of academic preparation necessary for success, the applicant must enroll in developmental courses or in an Adult Basic Education program as outlined in the College’s Placement and Testing Policy.
Applicants to a selective admissions program must petition for acceptance once all placement testing, exemptions, pre-requisites and/or developmental coursework has been completed.
Acceptance into the Honors Program is determined by the Honors Coordinator, in conjunction with faculty on the Honors Committee.
Applicants for Early Admissions including Dual Enrollment must follow the same procedures as applicants seeking regular admissions as well as provide approval from their high school or diploma granting institution and parent/guardian. Applicants, younger than 15 years of age must also schedule a personal interview through the Director of Admissions that convinces the interviewer that the student has the ability to participate at a satisfactory level. Admissions decisions for Early Admissions students are made by a team of representatives from the Admissions Office, Academic Affairs, and the Student Success Center.
International student applicants who must apply for a F-1 student visa or have been granted a student visa to study in the United States and are currently enrolled at another institution must follow the same procedures as those seeking regular admissions as well as provide evidence of financial support in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations Title 8 Section 214.1 under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Once admission has been granted, the College will provide the student with the Form I-20 so the applicant may provide proof of acceptance at the visa application interview. Transfer students must be released from their previous institution in good standing in order for a Form I-20 to be issued for study at the College.
