For the third consecutive year, Montgomery County Community College is pleased to announce that 100 percent of its 2009 Medical Assisting program graduates have passed the National American Medical Technologists’ Registered Medical Assisting examination, earning the Registered Medical Assisting (RMA) credential.
First introduced in fall 2003 at the College’s West Campus in Pottstown and expanded to the Central Campus in Blue Bell this fall, the Medical Assisting program prepares students in all of the administrative and clinical competencies necessary to work in physician offices, hospitals and other health care facilities. Taking 12 months to complete, the program is comprised of classroom instruction and a culminating practicum experience at one of 95 affiliated clinical sites in Montgomery County.
The College’s Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Students can begin the program in either the fall or spring semesters at both the West and Central campuses. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that Medical Assisting will be one of the fastest growing careers through the year 2014. Specifically, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor’s occupational employment projections through 2016 show a need for 4,930 additional medial assistants in the Commonwealth, with 29 percent or 1,430 of the need being regional to Montgomery, Bucks, Berks and Chester counties.
