Since 2001, Dr. Karen A. Stout has led Montgomery County Community College with visionary thinking, strategic planning, and student success at the heart of her work. Her exemplary leadership has brought the College national recognition for its work in student success as Achieving the Dream Leader College through programmatic innovations, facilities expansion, enhanced funding from public and private sources, and stronger relationships with the overall college community. Dr. Stout’s service and leadership extend well beyond the College to include numerous regional and national associations. She serves as Chair of the President’s Advisory Board to the Community College Research Center at Columbia University Teacher’s College, is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges Board of Directors, and is a Commissioner with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and Chair of Creative MontCo. Most recently, Dr. Stout was appointed co-chair of the 21st Century Initiative-Implementation Steering Committee. Her well respected advocacy efforts on the state level, and in Washington, DC has progressed the community college mission nationally.

Among her many honors, Dr. Stout was named to the University of Delaware’s Alumni Wall of Fame for her outstanding professional and public service achievements in 2005. In 2006, she was named President of the Year by American Student Association of Community Colleges and as the Educator of the Year by the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce. She was also named as a Montgomery County Woman of Distinction in 2009. In 2012, Dr. Stout was honored as a 2012 recipient of the University of Delaware Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement and earned the 2012 Chief Executive Officer Award for the North East Region from The Association of Community College Trustees.

Before joining Montgomery County Community College, Dr. Stout served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Enrollment Services at Camden County College and as the Rohrer Campus CEO in New Jersey. She also held positions at two community colleges in Maryland.

Dr. Stout holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Delaware.
