Meet the Class of 2016: James Walmsley is a Future Business Leader

James WalmsleyMay 14, 2016, Pottstown, Pa.—Determined, enthusiastic, fair-minded, optimistic, resourceful and versatile—these are some of the words Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) student James Walmsley uses to describe his approach to education and life.

“My motivation is constant progression. I want to work with others in my educational pursuits so that they progress too. Progression then leads to accomplishment. That sense of accomplishment is what I strive for. And that sense of accomplishment should give me the ability to rub off on others,” said the 19-year-old Pottstown resident.

“Apply the domino effect and I can make the world a better place,” he said.

Walmsley chose to attend MCCC because of cost. His goal is to graduate without debt. His selection as one of 44 students in the Commonwealth named to the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team by the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges (PACCC) will help him reach that goal.

In partnership with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (State System), All-PA Academic Team honorees are awarded two-year scholarships to any of the 14 State System institutions.

After he graduates from MCCC with an associate’s degree in Marketing on May 19, Walmsley plans to transfer to Kutztown University, on full scholarship, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

“I want to be in a position where I can influence people in a positive way, where I can motivate people,” he shared.

As a student, Walmsley served as secretary and treasurer of the Beta Tau Lambda chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international honors society. He also founded the Ultimate Frisbee Club at the West Campus and participated in a variety of community service projects, including park clean-ups.

“Community college allowed me to adjust to college while getting to know and impact the community I grew up in. I had the opportunity to achieve an associate’s [degree] while not digging myself into tens of thousands of dollars in debt,” he said.
