Feb. 28, 2014, Blue Bell/Pottstown, Pa.— In celebration of its golden anniversary year, Montgomery County Community College invites students, alumni, and present and former employees to enter the 2014 School Song Contest.
Entries can either be a traditional “Alma Mater” style song or a “Team Spirit” type of song. All entries must be in the form of written music notation. While a recording may accompany the sheet music, it is not required.
Entries must be submitted to Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Andrew Kosciesza by Sept. 30, 2014 in any of the following formats: “lead sheet” with words, melody and chords; four-part choral setting; or piano-vocal arrangement. Collaborative entries are welcome.
Upon entering the contest, each entrant must warrant the following with respect to their work: 1) entrant is the sole and exclusive owner(s) of the work; 2) the work is entrant’s own creation and is 100 percent original; and 3) the work will not infringe on any rights of any third parties.
Thanks to a generous donation by the Higginbotham Jackson Foundation, $500 in prize money will be awarded. The winning entry will receive $300 and two “runner up” entries will each receive $100. Collaborative entries will share the prize award.
Judging will be done by MCCC and its music faculty. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with the official rules, contains any third-party content or is inappropriate for any reason. All submissions will be judged during October 2014, and winners will be announced thereafter.
Further, MCCC reserves the right to declare none of the entries to be winners and to re-open the promotion or to cancel or modify the promotion in the event an insufficient number of entries are received. Submissions will be judged and submitted to the College’s administration for consideration of becoming the official school song. All entries will become the property of MCCC to be used in any way for publicity or other purposes.
