MCCC Student Nurses Raise Money, Donate Trees for Troops

Trees for TroopsDec. 11, 2013, Lansdale, Pa.— Over the past year, the Student Nurses Club at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) committed all of its service efforts to helping active military personnel, veterans and their families.

“Last summer and fall, the Student Nurses Club raised enough money to purchase 10 trees for the Trees for Troops national movement, in addition to $2,000 for the Wounded Warriors Walk,” said Christine Dunigan, assistant professor of nursing and club co-advisor. “The students agree that these are community service projects with a lot of meaning to them.”

This year, the student nurses raised enough funds to purchase 16 trees for the Trees for Troops program, a national charity run by The Christmas Spirit Foundation. Locally, the students partnered Bustard’s Christmas Trees in Lansdale to purchase their donations.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, Dunigan, along with nursing student Lindsey Brady and instructor Connie Fiorentino, were joined by members of MCCC’s Student Veterans Organization at Bustard’s Christmas Trees to purchase and tag 16 trees for delivery to military personnel and their families.

Pennsylvania Senator John Rafferty joined the students to donate a wreath, which MCCC student veterans will deliver to the Montgomery County Veterans Center in Norristown.

According to its website, Trees for Troops hopes to donate 140,000 total Christmas trees to military families this holiday season. To learn more, visit
